The Claude Code 50 percent weekly bump is the product
August 23, 2026
Claude Code weekly limits have been 50 percent higher since 13 May. That extra is the product. The planplan modeA Claude Code CLI mode that reads files and runs commands to explore a codebase but holds off making any changes until the user approves a proposed plan.See also Shift+Tab cycle, permission modes and the billing never absorbed it. A dated promo note still does the work.
Three extensionsExtensions directoryA Claude Desktop settings screen listing Anthropic-reviewed connector tools that install with a single click, without editing any config file.See also .mcp.json route, Extension Developer flow, MCP kept the same bump off the plan page. Anthropic's Help Center says that after 31 August 2026 at 11:59 PM PT, weekly Claude Code limits return to their standard levels, with no change to plan or billing.
You'll keep buying the week you have been living in. The subscription will keep describing the unboosted plan.
The plan page still sells the lower bar#

The Help Center article is still titled a May to August 2026 weekly limits promotion. Updated this week. It opens as a limited-time promotion that increases weekly usage limits in Claude Code by 50 percent.
The note on top is the whole product strategy. The page now says they have extended this promotion, and increased weekly limits run through August 31, 2026.
Who gets it is specific.
- Pro, Max, and Team seats get the extra weekly bar automatically.
- Legacy seat-based Enterprise is in. Consumption-based Enterprise seats stay out.
- Free plans stay out. Chat and Cowork weekly bars stay on the unboosted side of this promo.
Where it applies is the Code surfaces. CLI, IDE extensions, desktop, and the web.
The ending is the line the plan cares about. After August 31, 2026, weekly usage limits in Claude Code return to their standard levels. The Help Center adds that there is no change to plan or billing.
That is the tell. The extra can vanish and the subscription does not blink. The bump was never written into the plan. It was taped on.
Run /usage if you want the live bar. Claude Code's costs page is blunt about it. Subscribers see plan usage bars. For subscribers, the session cost figure is not relevant for billing.
Three extensions is the shipping method#

This is one bump. Four stickers.
- 13 May 2026, live through 13 July. @ClaudeDevs and u/ClaudeOfficial on r/ClaudeAI said it stacked with the 2x five-hour change from the week before.
- 12 July, through 19 July. @claudeai kept Claude Code weekly rate limits 50 percent higher. HN item 48883064 quoted the support page as May 13 through July 19, and Tiberium called it an existing promotion being extended.
- 18 July, through 19 August. @ClaudeDevs again, same 50 percent, same seats.
- 18 August, through 31 August at 11:59 PM PT. Third extension. Same percentage. New sticker.
A reader who only saw the August note would think Anthropic launched a summer promo. A reader who kept the tabs open watched the same 50 percent walk from July 13 to July 19 to August 19 to August 31 without ever becoming a line on the plan.
Do not mix this with the May 6 five-hour doubling. Anthropic's SpaceX compute post doubled Claude Code's five-hour rate limits for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise, and removed the peak hours cut for Pro and Max. That one landed as a product change. The weekly extra did not.
martin1744 called the original window summer sale limits on the May Reddit thread. The sale never closed. The sign just got a new end date in marker.
Hoping to make it permanent is not a rewrite#

The steel-man is boring and probably true. Capacity is tight. Agent weeks eat GPUs. @ClaudeDevs named strong demand as the reason permanence might wait.
@ClaudeDevs on 18 August said the quiet part. They hope to make this a permanent change to the plans, but strong demand means capacity may be tight over the coming weeks.
Hope is a promise to try. A plan rewrite is a number that survives the cliff. Those are different verbs.
A different 50 percent lives on Fable 5, a cap of how much of the weekly pool that model may draw. Do not mix it with this weekly Claude Code bump. Same digit, different product.
ajhai on HN 49348751 read the August tweet as plans to make the new limits permanent. That is the generous reading. The Help Center, fetched 23 August, still says the extra ends and the plan does not move.
If permanence was already the product, the promotion article would be a changelog. It is still a coupon. The coupon has been the working week since May.
You'll want the adult ending. Print the extra on the plan, drop the sticker, stop making Thursday a cliff. Until that page moves, the honest instrument is the dated note plus /usage, not the marketing adjective permanent.
The week you sized was the bump#

Alephinitesimal on that same HN thread forgot the May announcement and then understood why Claude Code felt so surprisingly generous for months. That is the product-market fit of a promo you stop seeing.
joshstrange had been watching to see if they would extend it again, let it end, or make it permanent. Regularly hitting 90 to 100 percent on a $200 seat. Ready to switch to Codex in a heartbeat if the extra dropped. The uncertainty was the annoying part, which is a polite way to say the plan was unreadable.
lossolo had an August 20 renewal sitting one day after the August 19 cliff. If they remove that extra 50 percent, the $200 moves to Codex. mil22 called it another scramble to use up weekly quota before an Anthropic cliff, and said this isn't fun.
The thread flipped the same afternoon. vermarish, brazukadev, someone4958923 watched the Help Center rewrite August 19 into August 31 while people were still arguing about the old date. The cliff walked back. The habit did not.
r/ClaudeCodeCLAUDECODEAn environment variable Claude Code sets to 1 in every subprocess it spawns, letting shell profile scripts detect and skip expensive setup when running under the agent. spent 17 August convinced the extra would die. Fit-Cost-7226 wrote that once the limit goes away, a 20x plan might be an hour or two. The post later grew an edit. Last minute extended to end of August, with hopes to make it permanent, and trouble serving demand.
A revert is not a 50 percent haircut on tokens. The extra is 50 percent above standard, so walking it back cuts the boosted bar by about a third. Reddit titled that math before the first July 13 cliff. Claude Code versus Codex limits already showed why you cannot convert the leftover into tokens anyway. One point of quota moved 8.7x on one account inside a fortnight. /usage is the bar. Transcripts will not save you.
The earlier complaint still sits underneath. Claude usage limits are a bigger problem than Anthropic admits was about showing people what is possible and then taking it away. That post was a March off-peak doubling. This one is a weekly extra that has been the working product for a hundred days and still wears a coupon.
Hold the position anyway. Budget the standard bar if a Thursday lockout would actually hurt. Keep a second agent ready. Cost of that is leaving unused headroom on the table every week the extra gets another date. What would change the bet is a plan rewrite, a number that still exists on 1 September without a Help Center note.
Questions people asked about the extra 50 percent
Will Anthropic extend the extra 50 percent again, let it end, or make it permanent?
Official copy still calls it a limited-time promotion through August 31 2026 at 11.59 PM PT. @ClaudeDevs hopes to make it a permanent change to the plans and also names tight capacity. Until the plan page moves, treat another dated note as the likely next act, not a rewrite of what the subscription sells.
asked on news.ycombinator.com ↗If they drop the extra 50 percent, should a $200 seat move to Codex?
That is a product bet, not a token bet. People on HN sized an August 20 renewal against the August 19 cliff. A revert cuts the boosted weekly bar by about a third. Shop the week you can actually finish, then keep a second agent ready. Do not convert tokens into quota in either direction.
asked on news.ycombinator.com ↗Does the weekly bump also raise the five-hour limit?
No. The promotion increases weekly Claude Code limits only. Five-hour limits are a different change from May 6, when Anthropic doubled them and removed peak-hour cuts for Pro and Max. Chat and Cowork weekly bars stay on the unboosted side of this promo.
asked on support.claude.com ↗After the cliff, is the week 50 percent smaller than the one you have been living in?
The extra is 50 percent above standard. Walking it back is a one-third cut from the boosted bar, not a 50 percent haircut on tokens. Reddit titled that math before the first July 13 cliff. Budget the standard bar now if a Thursday lockout would actually hurt.
